EPC to examine Councillor’s zipper

Among the items on the agenda at today’s Executive Policy Committee (EPC) meeting: St. Boniface Councillor Matt Allard’s suggestion the City investigate zipper merging as a means of improving traffic flow.

Allard first proposed the idea in April, hoping to spark a conversation about shifting Winnipeg’s notorious driving culture. According to experts, zippering can reduce traffic line-ups by as much as 40 per cent. They also point to the system being fairer, which may also contribute to a decrease in road rage incidents.

“I know there’s going to be a lot of debate,” Allard told Metro News, “but I think Winnipeg drivers are up for it.”

That may be true of Winnipeg drivers. However, we won’t know until later today if the Mayor and his fellow EPC members share their enthusiasm.
